From Alarm to Action: Verifying Online Bushing Monitoring Alerts with Advanced Offline Testing

November 2026

Online monitoring of high voltage bushings on transformers and reactors is a reliable technique to provide early warning of bushing degradation to enable users to take corrective action to prevent catastrophic failures and the associated customer interruptions.  Since the online systems are monitoring the bushings in their actual operating conditions (rated voltage, rated current, and elevated temperatures), they can identify defects at an early stage.  Following an alert from the online monitor, most users rely on offline testing to confirm the alarms from the bushing monitor.

While traditional power factor testing at 10kV and 50/60Hz is often the go to test to verify health of the bushing, alternative test methods can be more effective at confirming alarm(s).  This webinar will discuss alternative test methods which were used to confirm the declining health of a bushing following an alarm from the online bushing monitoring system.
