Industry estimates show that about 18% of in-service power transformers have excessive moisture levels defined as “unacceptable.” Excessive moisture in a transformer’s insulation system can lead to the possibility of catastrophic failure of mission-critical transformers. Aside from failure mechanisms, moisture is an accelerator of the aging of paper and pressboard insulation which can shorten the lifespan of your expensive transformer assets.

In this webinar we will discuss the technical aspects of moisture in transformers and its impact. Different common drying technologies will be explained and compared. A case study will be presented showing how the shortfalls with traditional drying methods can bring a false sense of security, leading to catastrophic failure. And finally, we will discuss how low-frequency heating is a solution which can expedite safe and rapid moisture removal from both the oil and insulation.
