Motors and Generators

Studies by the IEEE and EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) deduce that up to 40% of forced outages are attributable to failures in the stator insulation systems of rotating machines.
Effective on-line monitoring of stator windings, to deliver early warning of condition deterioration, includes the monitoring of Partial Discharges (PD). Dynamic Ratings advanced monitoring technology provides PD monitoring with additional options which are available, or underdevelopment, including:
- Correlation of PD activity under actual operating conditions of load current, voltage, hydrogen pressure, ambient air temperature and humidity.
- Current Signature Analysis for determination of broken rotor bars on induction machines.
- Shaft Current Monitoring to ensure circulating currents are not present.
- Flux monitoring in the air gap of turbine generators.
